There's always the classics such as Demings funnel experiment.

Not specifically SPC but for error source identification, I also like to demonstrate flinching by having students plot histograms for measurements with calipers (tighter tolerances work better). Compare plots where students know the tolerance and one without knowing it.

Try generating a thousand normally distributed, randomly generated numbers in a control chart. You will get points beyond the limits. As you add in the extended rules, more and more points will show out of control.

This is simply to illustrate that false alarms do happen.
