Plug Gage Calibration

At my plant, we have 3 sets of plug gages ranging from .01 thru 1.00 and have normally sent them out in sets. We just received another 2 sets after closing a plant and I am no thinking that we should start calibrating them in house. What is the best way to quickly measure a plug gage? My inspectors mentioned using a laser scan micrometer but the prices are outrageous for our current budget!

As always, when I hear the "calibrate it ourselves" message I ask "Do you really want to go through everything involved in setting up an internal calibration lab?" You need to do the research on that first.

"Sets of plug gages". Normally I think of "plug" gages as high accuracy, class X or greater, as opposed to "pin" gages that are class Z or ZZ. That will determine the accuracy required to measure the gages. So before I go off suggesting measurement solutions I need to know the accuracy of your gages.
