We have small gears that we bore with a tapered bore (.001 taper) to try to compensate for heat treat distortion and they have to be 100% checked at the machine. We are using a regular Go / No-Go plug gage and have a lot of problems. It is very hard to check a tapered hole with a regular plug gage but I can see no way to use a tapered gage. I think the problem may be from the size of Go / No-Go sectors of the gage. Any thought or suggestions would be appreciated. We machine these parts by the thousands and can not put much extra time int the process,
