Regarding the definition of a poka-yoke, the other day I was having a conversation about reflecting poka yokes in a
PFMEA (automotive). The topic was if go -no- go gauges used to verify a characteristic should be considered a poka yoke. As stated here pokayokes can be preventive ( the ideal) or for detection, ASQ also defines it this way. Gauges are sure for detection, but used manually the operator can forget to verify the characteristic, therefore not even detecting it. Maybe for a detection to be a pokayoke needs to be automated? I couldn't find any info on this, GM's ranking tables for detection includes the use of gauges although it does not specify if manual or automated.
What do you folks thing?
