PPAP Part Supplied to Multiple Plants - Submit another PPAP or PSW to the new plants?

We have several parts were recently approved through the PPAP process for a single plant. The buyer is now requesting we send parts to a few plants that were not involved with the original PPAP. The additional requirement will not cause us to change anything in our process.

I can not find documentation showing we need to submit another PPAP or PSW to the new plants. Please let me know if there is a requirement or what experience you may have with this type of situation.

Assuming this is one customer and your shipping to multiple plants or subsidiaries own by that entity. Then no other PPAP's should be required. Because the first PPAP was accepted by the customer/buyer.

This is similar to what we do at my plant. We conduct a PPAP, the customer approves it. Next thing you know where shipping to multpile locations. As long as the PPAP has been approved by the company buying the parts. IMO I don't see the necessity to send more copies of the PPAP especially if the process hasn't changed.

Depends on the customer - some customers may require a copy of the original PPAP sent to the new plant for their records (darn audits). Some even require a new warrant to the new plant. Funny thing, sometimes new plants use the same part differently - such as one plant may manually insert the part, the other may have robotic assembly. The same part may not work for other plants. So, they may want to do engineering trials and signoffs at the new plant. Never assume... But, again, depends on the customer - and they sign the checks.

My experience is that either a copy of the signed warrant or a copy of the PPAP was sent to the additional shipping location. I have also had situation where there is a central PPAP approving authority, which means that when approved you can ship to any location (OEMs and engine manufacturer).

Always when in doubt, ask your customer.

Welcome to the Cove Lonnie

I know with GM - NAO, a PPAP approval is "good" for all locations in North America and I don't need to send a copy of the submmission to the various using plants. They, typically, do require a Production Trial Run at each using plant.

I have other customers where the submission documents are required for each using plant, as well as, the PTR parts. As was mentioned, it's best to contact each using facility for their needs.

My experience is that the PPAP approval was up to the specific plants.

Most times the plants accepted "corporates" approval but a couple did not. In this case though the "odd ball" plant was located in Canada and wanted to do their own thing.

Again this is only my experience though.

Others have already given good answers. I would add, try to persuade them not to require it. It is a lot of extra work, unless you do PPAPs electronically. A copy of the signed PSW should be adequate for their audit.
