PPAP submission for a new customer of an existing product

Hi,
I'm new here and I am new to this "strict" and "challenging" quality world of the automotive industry.

Recently, a new customer came up and is on the process of establishing a contract to buy automotive cables from my company.
They requested me for a level 3 PPAP submission for a type of wire that we are currently producing.
We were already approved by our other customer previously, a couple of years ago.
My questions are:
1. Do I need to prepare new sets of the required attachments, e.g., performance test results, material test results, MSA studies, etc? or will it be okay if I'll use the attachments used previously during the initial approval (dated several years back)?
2. Do I need to create another prototype/pre-launch control plan? or will it be okay if I will just submit the production control plan?

Please advise.

Welcome,
We can advise you but in the end the customer is the one who decides.
You should be able to submit the previous PPAP.
I would think about redoing the performance tests (as much for you as for the customer), or are you doing them on a regular basis.
Certainly you do not need a new control plan.
I would suggest that5 you talk to the customer if possible

Howard is correct, the customer's rules apply.

One of my customers requires all PPAP data to be less than 12 months old at the time of submission. This includes MSA reports, performance tests, capability studies and similar.

Consequently, copying a previous, 2 year old, submission would not be acceptable for that customer.

I was reviewing the entire records of the department for a couple of days now. I noticed that the PPAP files(packages) were no longer updated.
PPAP should be regularly updated right?
When you say updated, the MSA reports, performance tests, capability studies, etc., should be updated also, right? I mean I will need to produce new reports for the MSA, new Performance/Dimensional/Material Test results.

The other problem I am faced now is that I noticed that the latest performance test results failed on one aspect. I was planning to use those results for the PPAP.

It's really been very hard for me lately here. I just came in to this department and the other guy in-charge of all these, suddenly left the company with no proper turnover of responsibilities.

The PPAP is a snapshot of the results at a certain point in time, that of the submission.
There are documents that should be updated basically the Process Flow Chart, FMEA and Control Plan.
The other documents, except for MSA, are the results of your production and also show the situation at one specific time.

Actually, the MSA (specifically GR&R) should not have to be updated (although some customer-specific requirements include it). If they were completed correctly, there is no time function to a GR&R. Its design is to answer the question: "Is this the correct gage for the job?" Unless you have made a change to the gage, or decide to change the qualifications of the operators of the gage - at which point it should have been verified with a Gage R&R - then it is pointless to redo GR&Rs. All of the time function issues are in the calibration issues. They answer the question: "Does the gage still measure correctly?" Generally, they do not ask for calibration records.

But, customers sign the checks, so if they ask for it, then belly up....:cool:
