PPAP Third Edition Documents - Can we make our own forms or must we buy them?

Hello all,
I’m the responsible for the Metrology Service in a medium portuguese company that produces plastic parts for automotive industry and my doubt is...
We have several customers that ask us PPAP Third edition with presentation samples, and I want to know if it’s possible make our own document forms (FMEA, Control Plan, Capacity Study and others) or I have to buy the packages that several organisations are selling on internet?

You do not need to buy a package, many people use forms based on Excel with no problems- a package like this can be found here.

The advandage of the software is that it saves time in connecting the various documents.

Hello,

I would even not recommend to buy any packages for that. Develop them once using the standard layouts that are available. This is much better as you can revise them accordingly when newer requirements are issued. Also it leaves you with more flexibility to make the documents suit your own purpose.

First... :thanx: for your replies, they help a lot to clarify my doubts.

I agree with you Ddaenen1, the packages are very expensive and in future if something change, we must buy a new one. I follow your suggestions and made our own “PPAP forms”. Comparing my “wasted time” with the price of package that my company had in mind to buy, I think the final result is very good.

And i can add to that, if you need any specific ones, i have most of them in word or excel format (self-made or obtained from our customer base) and i am happy to share them with you, just pm or mail me.

I noticed that many of the fields in this example are protected - is this by design so that only pertinent data is entered where directed? Wow, what an Excel miracle this is!!!

I created myself an Excell sheet for Initial Process Study (capability) and MSA according to SPC and MSA manuals.
Everything was OK until auditor asked, if it was verified prior to the first use.
He took a look on every formula, cells interfaces and so on.
Then major NC appeared, when he found a mistake in calculation, because it can drive to situation, when customer approves unstable process, which as calculation shows is stable.
So be carefull, what You use.

I have several quality documents made by myself in Microsoft Excel. As you, I have Initial Process Study, Calibration Report, Dimensional Report and so one. All had formulas and macros, because I like simplify jobs with efficiency.
Of course, when you made a new document with formulas, you must test very well each result, preferentially use a similar document/software already approved to confirm your results (don’t forget to put the same data in both documents) :D or made the calculations manually first. When the final result is equal in both, you can consider your job almost done... because I advise you to protect and approve the document to show auditor how as made and approved.

Hello NetScorpium,

I was visiting UK and that's why there was no response from my side.
Thank You for Your advices. When NC occured I verified my sheets using datas from MSA and SPC manuals.
And everything was OK.
