Predictive Maintenance vs SPC (Statistical Process Control) Data

I would like to know some experiences of other plants with regard to the relation of the predictive maintenance with the correlation of spc data to preventive manitenance activities and optimization of uptime.

We want to establish a predictive maintenance in our plant with regard to the critical variables of the process....However we have some doubts about the use of the SPC related to the Predictive mainenance of the equipment or tooling.

Thanks in advance

Though SPC is generally used for product characteristics and process parameters, it should be possible to use SPC to chart machine parameters such as current, vibration, temperature etc. You can then detect trends and determine if maintenance is required. The benefits will of course have to be weighed against the cost of the system to be implemented for data collection and analysis. However, IMO, this is a very good proposition for continuous process plants where cost of shutdown is very high.

I think, you will find more information or even case studies on the web if you search for 'predictive maintenance'. One example is: *** Dead Link Removed ***
