Re: 0-80 thread measurement

We were avoiding thread ring gages also. Especially with this small a thread. Never fully trusted our calibration of ring gages. As stated, very operator dependent, very subjective.
That's true - but the price jumps quick after you pass up that option.

Re: 0-80 thread measurement

SOLUTION FOUND !!! We have a solution; we're not measuring the pitch diameter, because we can't. We will measure Major diameter and Minor diameter. Both are within our capability. We'll measure thread angle at setup and last piece, both diameters and be happy. Customer should never have specified fit for the item we are treading. Probably taken from a book somewhere...

Thanks all for the suggestions. Wish all our soulutions were this easy.

Solution? Well, prior to accepting the order from the Customer. this issue should have been identified and discussed. Trying to come up with "solutions" without customer involvement after the fact can come to bite you in the butt...

Re: 0-80 thread measurement

Things like this are ALWAYS by passing our quoting folks. Luckily our customers, though extremly large companies, are no more sophisicated than we. As evidenced by the thread fit callout for an external, self tapping thread, for a temporary fixture. We feel confident our product will meet design intent. And we feel confident our customer is as poorly prepared to measure the thread pitch diameter as we are. But we did try.

Thanks to all for the assistance. We were in a hurry to resove the delima. We may not have the most technically correct solution, but we have a workable solution.

When I wear my auditor hat, I will write this up as a nonconformity.
And when it's "always" recurring, it will become a major nonconformity.

Something to consider. ;)

Find a local thread grinding house, they may inspect cheaply or as a favor if you know them.
