We received an audit observation last year during a customer audit for "red-lined" updates on our plant drawings not being initialed and dated.
Yup - No Responsibility and Date is a definite No No on any document, not just prints. It also brings into focus the entire EC (engineering change) system and how it is managed, including how marked up prints are handled (such as 'eventually' getting prints revised).

I especially love the " Cocktail napkin prints", you know the kind that has the part sort of drawn in the shape they want the part with the approx. measurements. Oh, and the Material description would be in reference of " rubberlike"....gotta love engineers when they have a couple of drinks ;)

We have a customer who "marks up" their prints on a regular basis. When we get a copy of this "marked up" drawing I have to make numerous copies internally so people can do their jobs. (Order gages, build fixtures, etc.)
Trying to control these prints is a "documentational nightmare". I bought a date stamp and used the most current date as a way to ensure everyone had the latest and greatest. But then we ran into an instance where the customer marked up a drawing in the morning and sent it to us, then marked up the "marked up" drawing in the afternoon and sent that one to us. I guess I'm going to have to buy a time stamp now. :bonk:

We were getting rejects only from customers outside of the US and couldn't figure out why this was happening, so I checked the calculation from inches to mm on every dimension of the drawing and found they were 3mm off. This engineering print was approved by the designer, Engineering Manager and VP of Engineering! they blamed it on AutoCad program..

A Customer of ours issued us a CA for shipping incorrect parts to them. Problem was when we checked the Print and Parts and the PPAP we still could not figure out why they where saying the parts were incorrect. I decided to ask for the Blue print they had, and low and behold one of their Engineers decided to mark up their print, but forgot to follow the correct procedure and left us in the dark. When I got the print there were all kinds of scribbly lines were he had made changes and the Rev level was changed. Even though with that kind of evidence and knowing we didn't do anything wrong, I was still required to answer the CA. Kind of hard of answering a CA and pretending that we are the people that are not capable of reading a print nor having the foresight of knowing when their Engineers are making changes to ask for a new print. :bonk:
