During a TS16949 audit we almost got written up for not doing process audit; but the auditor after reading the audit report changed his mind. It was not a perfect process audit but at least we talked about inputs, outputs , support activities and we verified effectiveness. He reserved his opinion. "Practice makes perfect" they say. We are still improving this technique. But at least the external auditor does not write us up anymore. Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply. Let me clarify better. Our auditor gave us the benefit of the doubt and did not officially write us up, but strongly suggested that we change our style by the next audit or we will get written up.

Have you performed a Process Auditing using the Turtle Diagrams?

Do you have any resources that may explain this style better?

My understanding is that we would start with a blank Turtle Chart and starting with process inputs, follow a few items through the entire process looking for gaps.

Also do you know if Internal Auditor certificates expire? Our certificates do not contain expiration dates, but people have thrown around a 3 year validity period. I can't find anything related to this anywhere.

I used this approach at one client and it was recommended by their CB auditor to another of the CB auditor's clients!

I do in house traning using the Turtle diagram and the Cross functional Process Flow Diagram.

My resource is this forum and the site work instructions.

I start with the Work instructions of the process and plug everything in the blank turtle diagram (input-output and support processes). There is a room for improvement in measurement of effectiveness of process.

There is no expiration date for Internal Auditors as long as they conduct audit every year and keep up with the changes in the standards. I like to attend a refresher course but niot to do the 5-day full blown Lean Auditor course.

I want to know if anyone has a Process Map (Turtle) for internal auditing? I am struggling a little with identifing the support processes to internal audits.

Yes,
I have been performing the process audit using the turtle diagram. I am used to it now. It speeds up the process. I also framed my questions around the turtle diagram. I think I got the diagram from the Cove. The auditor did not have any question because I am sure the auditor and myself are still learning how to do process audit effectively. Good Luck.
