Just to clarify...we use this generic checklist to stimulate thinking in our process audits. The problem we were encountering was that try as we might, our internal audits were focused solely on compliance to a standard. We were looking solely at whether we had a process and not on how well we performed the process. This has been a good tool to get our internal audit teams truly using a process approach that doesn't just look at compliance to a standard. Each team uses this in formulating their audit plans to each particular process, so it isn't a "canned vanilla" approach.
Ah, this extra information makes all the difference and I can see why you would use something like this in that case. :)

OK, I'll be honest. I am SCARED abount conducting my first "Process Approach" audit.
I have the QMS Process Flow Map - so I have identified the processes that need to be audited.
I have identified the in/outputs (Records, Product, Whatever) of each process.
I have identifed the previous & next process and who is responsible.....

NOW WHAT???:mg:

I have sat here motionless for a week - what do I do. Go gather the inputs and look for conformity to the procedure? Go talk to the person responsible for the process? and after I do get started ....My biggest fear is HOW DO I DOCUMENT THE DARN THING?? :bonk:

I have been to Process Audit training and although they went through the identifcation of processes - we never really PERFORMED the actual audit.

1. Take a deep breath.

2. Pick a process. Look through its process document/map/whatever and see if you can prepare some kind of plan, which can be as simple as a list of questions to ask (you may not use them all, but having them at hand helps).

3. Now go down and talk to whoever works in/on that process. Start at the beginning (it makes more sense) and ask those who, what, when, why, where? questions. Ask them to show you what happens and step you through it.

Either while you're being shown, or later, compare it (mentally) with the map. Does it match? If yes, great. If no... is it simply a matter of different vocab or is there a major variation?

Treat it as a learning/discovery exercise.

PS. You should have (been provided with) better training. An audit course where you don't actually DO any audit is not OK. Nor is being turned loose as an auditor - you should have another auditor to show you ropes, so you can watch them while you're still learning. Is that not possible? As for scared - yeah, I can understand that with this amount of minimal training!
