Well I have now finished my draft presentation for review. I have included examples, a summary of the role, suggested title and salary as well has the top ten things that come to mind where I believe immediate action is required. Can I possibly obtain the services of any or all of you to review this draft for me and provide me with some constructive critisism as I need to email it to the CEO tonight. I know that some of it is wordy and some of the examples I have copied and pasted as I believe the CEO will relate to the diagrams which is just another example of my wordy pieces, anyway, any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I have obtained such good info from my fellow cove members and have learnt a great deal since registering. I have successfully been a QA Manager for only 2 years with only 5 years manufacturing experience with no qualifications apart from short courses, diploma in QA Management and Cert IV in Frontline Management however have had lots of life experience that can be applied and through forums like this, have relied on this site as my mentor and have self taught many things through information provided here.

Thanks again all and I look forward to your feedback

Hello Red4165,

Thank you for sharing the presentation. Lots of excellent information.
However, if you were given only 15 minutes with the Top Person, what would you present to convey the most powerful message possible? I would make an executive summary (for the Top Person) and keep the rest of your excellent presentation for the other Managers. Who knows, the Top person may be there to listen to all the specifics....

Thanks heaps for your feedback. I guess that if I were in the situation with only 15minutes, I would just provide the second page and talk through it, or possibly just provide the last page. Thankfully I have a captive audience whos wants heaps of info therefore I have covered the wordy stuff and the pretty pictures including the table of top tens. Is there anything that you feel that I haven't covered or should add to it??

G'day, mate!

Red - it is so difficult to make a slide presentation which is going to 'hit the spot'. You've seen that a simple statement on a few slides is more likely to work, with your comments, discussions being the key element of the 15 mins.

BTW - There are general rules about no slide having more than about 20/25 words, unless you're quoting something.

Much of what you have can be made into handouts, not slides, especially the issues of salary, etc. I'd tend to make the slide the 'strategic' nature of the role and show how the key business issues would be addressed through various tools - I wouldn't hang out 6 Sigma as the only solution. It might be that you adopt or revisit 'ISO' as a baseline for your business processes (if not already), use Lean to identify waste in those processes and 6 Sigma to identify/implement improvements, for example. A Process Improvement Manager is likely to be more of a stategic benefit (looking over the business horizon for the 'what's next') and guiding the implementation, reporting to management on results etc., as well as ensuring the top management understand their roles - so being a coach, guide etc.

One question I do have (unrelated to the presentation) is your reporting structure. Why HR, why not directly to the top person?

Thanks heaps for your feedback Andy, it is greatly appreciated. The reason why I included everything including salary was because this ppt was to confirm our discussion covering all of the points including the top ten first hits. The reason why he suggested that I report to HR was because the HR director whom he has worked with for 10years needs to fulfil her role more and I guess that he feels that this is the perfect solutions. Your question does pose an interesting point though. In our discussion he suggested ways for me to head to the top in reporting directly to him hence my suggestion of this position. I think that I may include the reporting structure suggesting that I report directly to him - a bit pushy - hey but who cares, one has to be a bit pushy these days. This particular CEO is not familiar with our processes having never worked in manufacturing and nor is he familiar with DMAIC, 6 sigma or have a full understand of Quality iso etc that is why I put all of that stuff in the presentation to try to make sure he undestands that I have a good grasp on my objectives and have a range of tools to use in providing successful outcomes. I like your reminder of the "A Process Improvement Manager is likely to be more of a stategic benefit (looking over the business horizon for the 'what's next') and guiding the implementation, reporting to management on results etc., as well as ensuring the top management understand their roles - so being a coach, guide etc." as I had meant to include this - I will do so now. So do you think that I should bin most of it and just use the second page and last page with table?

What a great opportunity to "educate" this CEO, and build a strong case for the program you're proposing. Don't forget to include the "monetary benefits" for the organization. That's what CEO's are looking for and the Owners will more than likely hold the CEO accountable for the re$ult$. ;)

Again, please keep us posted.

Hi All

Well, I forwarded my presentation to the CEO today, page 1,2,5,8,11 total of 5 pages. He rang me early this morning prior to reading the presentation and we had a brief discussion. We discussed the fact that he sees this role as an overall business process improvement role and hopes that I don't just look at it from a Qualty perspective. I explained that it is through the principles of quality, 6 sigma and dmaic etc etc that I am able to identify opportunities with perspective. He advised that nothing is set in concrete yet however after another discussion later in the morning he also stated that he can see exactly where I am coming from and it seems that we are 'working from the same page'. He will be in our office on Wednesday to advise my current boss the Ops Director of his intentions and get his buy in for the detail of replacing me etc and the timelines. So it is all looking good at this stage but I will know more on Wednesday. When this does go ahead, I will be searching this site frantically to assist me in the initial stages of this role.

Thanks Stijloor.

Speaking of learning and tools etc, does anyone have any checklists and or paperwork already created that I could use in my process?

Thanks all again
