Process Mapping - Inputs/Outputs/Detail Activities/Control points/Measurement

Hello:

I'm writing this topic because I would like to know "how do I construt a process map".
For each process I think it's important to define: Inputs/Outputs/Detail Activities/Control points/Measurement. Are there more points that must be considered?

Thanks in advance,

In my mind you are already there -

Define inputs and outputs and then identify the processes to achieve this transormation. As you state, where necessary be sure to highlight the controls and also remeber the role of QA in all processes.

In my writing of proces maps I usually go by the least number of steps to get things done. I try not to clutter and keep things simple. Auditors can only audit what is on paper and not what they think. hope this helps.

Any suggestions for software tools to capture process mapping information. Visio is soooo cumbersome!!!!!!

We've been using SmartDraw for several years for this kind of work. It's not the best out there, but for the $$$, it was not bad. It will work with MS Word also.

Kaleem,

TeamFlow is so much faster than Visio for recording your process analyses as documented procedures.

All my clients have used it since 1988 even when they already had Visio.

Isabel,

Also search for SIPOC. That way you can show who actually provides the inputs, who adds the value and to whom the output is delivered.

And don't forget the process objective (the reason for doing the work).

Lastly, focus on what is actually done to prevent nonconformity.
