Production Operators Performing GP12 (General Motors Containment)

Hello all!
We have a GP12 area set up at the end of a production line, as per our customer requirements. We have Production personnel performing the processes on this line.

For the 100% checks involved, the Operator performing these checks was the initial person who ran the first operation (say Op# 10) on the part. Once all of the parts have gone through the remaining operations, the Op# 10 Operator is now performing the processes at the GP12 line.

Would you recommend this? A co-worker is concerned that the Op# 10 Operator will not report any issues if their his parts or fix them without contacting someone.

thoughts?

Re: Production Operators Performing GP12

I don't know what the current version of GP12 is (GM's "Early Production Containment" requirements) but I have a copy dated 2006 that says that you must: "Establish GP-12 containment stations, which must be off-line, separate, and independent check from the normal manufacturing process and located at end of process." I think the "independent check" part of it means that you probably shouldn't be using a production operator from that process to do the verification.

It is a good practice not to have anyone not audit / inspect their own work.

(even if GP-12 would allow it).

Bias is the main reason: "I" only passed good parts the 1st time, so why inspect with care? The parts are good anyone.

So, protect your company.
