Sounds like you got the right advice. I've worked in 2 man shops and 60 person shops and I've built a QMS system from the ground up as well as worked in a mature QMS that's been around for decades.
I honestly think you won't have to do too much, but even if you did you would be able to tailor it to your needs and structure in a way that wouldn't put you out too much. I'll PM you my contact info, please get with me any time. Even if you just have minor curiosities.
Thank you for the helping hand. I appreciate it!
A couple things im not sure of. Does my gauging need to be calibrated yearly etc? Most of the tolerances are plus or minus .005 with some things like depths and hole diameters plus or minus .001 which i use mics on without a problem. Some of their call outs are just 1/4" ream for example. Lol....yeah... I even know the parts where they want a slip vs press. Mostly everything i check with a caliper other than the .001 dimentions.
So, for inspections, do i test the first couple parts off the machine 100%? (What i used to do)
Say i make 150 pcs/order. Maybe check all the plus or minus .01 dimentions 1 every 40 parts. The plus or minus .005 every 20 parts and the plus or minus .001 every 5 parts, or is there a frequency set up by the standard?
I really only machine 6061 and plastics for this customer, so nothing much changes the entire run of parts.
I have a universal inspection sheet that lists customer, po number, part number, operation ____ of ____ , dimention, tolerance and then time of inspecation total first article 100% inspection, quality managers signature (me lol) date.
If anyone can add anthing to this, id appreciate your input. I'll get around to installing all the dimentions on the print/operation and then keeping them with the part traveler file so all i need to do is fill in the actual reading.
Once i finished all the part numbers on the PO, then ill scan them all into a file, along with material certs and head them under the PO number. Does that sound good?
Thanks for the input.
What i did was talked to an engineer there and i refiled the customer questionnaire and he told me that i should fill them all yes but the last question. So thats what i did and resent.
I dont have a scope made or proceedure documentation. I basically am the only one doing this. Do i still need to make something and if so, anyone intersted in helping me get those made up? 13 years ago i was trying to get certified to get some work coming in. I dug up a quality manual etc and upon reading, it sounded like a bunch of legal mumbo jumbo.
I guess maybe i dont need anything right now, but it would be nice to stay ahead of the curve and have some kind of something written up.
Thanks,
Jim
