maintenance objectives

Element 4.9.g.1 of the standard requires the facility to document, evaluate and improve maintenance objectives. Question: is this as simple as setting a goal for unscheduled down-time?

I think that would be a great start. Think about it more and others will probably come to mind. Consider those things that you already use to track the effectivity of your maintenance department.

Jeff,

Just some ideas:

a. Machine up-time improvement.
b. Reduction of time used for PM activities.
c. MTBF studies.
d. Reduction in PM budget.
e. Reduction in maintainence requests.
f. Maintainence cost as % of sales.
g. % maintainence personnel to operational personnel.
h. Cost reduction for maintainence equipment.

As usual the goals need to be set and monitored and the only thing I suggest is to make sure that whatever measurements you choose are cost effective and reported through management review. Hopefully part of the business plan short and long term goals.
