Hi
I have a policy draft for my agency, will you help to check if is ok

Quality Policy
The GCPA Policy is to provide Quality and cost effective laboratory Services to the customers for safeguarding human health, environment and Social well-being.

These aims will be achieved through;
 Our Commitment to meet and exceed customer expectations as well as comply with regulatory requirements and continual improvement of the Quality Management System,
 Establishing and reviewing quality objectives at various levels of the organization,
 Communicating the policy to stakeholders and employees,
 Effective implementation of a management system compliant with ISO 9001 .
The management system and its processes, including Quality Policy will be systematically reviewed for continuing suitability to identify opportunities for improving its effectiveness and enhancing Customer Satisfaction.

In my view; the good.

1- Its nice and short which means it's something that organisational members can remember, understand and relate to.

2 one can tell that its been written by a person in the quality trade.

The OFI - I would'nt say any of the things after the policy statment itself as what you have said goes on behind the scences. Regurgitating selected parts of the standard dosen't add much. Besides, then you wont have someone like Randy putting your feet to the fire.

Do we have to specifically state 5.3b in our quality policy or can this be described in 5.3b of our Quality Manual?

Thanks

Hello!,

in my experience, the best way to accomplish this is by:
- hoshin kanri
Quality policy deployment...,
by doing this you will be answering all the questions that I have seen in the comments... tou your question...
for a policy statement I start with the company's processes and determine key metrics for each process, then group metrics into similar categories, and these become the quality objectives.
THEN you will have: Quality Policy-> Objective -> Metric=> TARGET
an small sentence extracted from the policy says: Delivery on time
Q. Obj.-> Ontime-delivery
Metric-> Avge time to deliver part X
Target/goal=> 2 days by June/2013

This is thebest approach...,
it serves for the quality policy...., and Quality Objective section of the ISO standard.., they both are Fuzzy..., I hope on the next version, it comes more clear
good luck,
Roberto

You have a lot of good opinions from a lot of knowledgeable people.

There were two main things that caught my eye, one of which was already mentioned (the fact that the quality policy needs to come from top management).

The other one is in this line:

"Our Commitment to meet and exceed customer expectations as well as comply with regulatory requirements and continual improvement of the Quality Management System . . . "

Technically the standard requires that you need to comply with the quality management system (as well as continually improve it). Complying with regulatory requirements is laudable (and some would say that is included in complying with the quality management system), but it really isn't enough.

And then as Steve and others pointed out, the policy does not exist in a vacuum. It needs to provide a framework for the quality objectives. Until you present the objectives, the policy cannot be fully confirmed.

Your policy is fine.

Your objectives need some work. They need to be measurable. I don't see that. How do you measure "world class"? How do you measure how training improves efficiency? How do you measure maintaining congenial work environment.

May I suggest you look to 8.4 a-d for guidance in choosing quality objectives?

a) customer satisfaction
b) product quality
c) process efficiency
d) supplier performance

Customer satisfaction may be tracked through a customer survey.

Product quality may be tracked from tracking rework or perhaps warranty returns.

Process efficiency may be evaluated by tracked on-time delivery.

Supplier performance may be evaluated by tracking supplier on-time delivery or supplier rejects.

Those are all measurable.

please comment to my org. quality policy
I don't see anything about complying with requirements. To do "quality" you have to comply with requirements - specs, delivery and so on. This is foundational, before you can talk about safe, etc.

Also, what do your own management say? It doesn't really matter what anyone here says - especially since we have no clue about your organization and whether this policy is even close to being appropriate.
