At my place of employ we have to do Quality standards as part of our version of PPAP. I have included an example to help explain what i am asking.
Our standards are basically explanations for our suppliers on what dimensions/specifications that are most critical and need to be checked as part of their own quality assurance. The problem is that when we make the standards the dimension and/or specifications column specifies exact dimensions from the current drawing revision and need to be updated constantly with each new drawing revision. We have a huge number of quality standards for each of our products and keeping them updated would be a job with in itself.
So now our parts quality department (who should be handling these anyways) is saying the reason they allowed parts to be used without a control plan from the supplier (during a pre production event) is because the quality standards for the parts is not up to date. So of course the cheif inspector now wnats to know why they are not being kept up to date (though he didint seem to mind when he was head of QE.) So i was planning on maybe calling out the important features instead of specifying exact dimensions at least until the part reaches mass production level. Though this idea has been meet with some resistance from engineers in our department. I wanted to see if anyone had any other suggestions for changing the form or would be willing to let me know how they did it at their place of work.
Any ideas or examples would be appreciated as they will help me make my point when i propose a change. thanks
