Quality Systems Supervisor given a NC

I got this via e-mail:

"Just one quick question.

Should a Quality Systems Supervisor be givene a Corrective Action For any cause. Thanks Carl"

My response is why should a Quality Systems Supervisor be exempt if they are the responsible party?

Our quality manager has no problem with receiving a nonconformance. On one hand, it's disappointing to find a glitch in your system, but on the other, she's happy to see the glitch is not being ignored.

I have issued a NC against myself in the past. We all overlook things and we all make mistakes.:bonk:

Couldn't have said it better myself!

Re: Quality Systems Supervisor given a NC

Hi All,

I have no problem with QA getting a NC. I am currently having three new auditors trained up and the firts area they will be auditing is Quality (those areas I have not been able to audit due to conflict). I ma sure that I will get something to fix. The system is fluid and always changing. I look at NC as a positive (Glass half Full) they are not personal. I think that is where a lot of people have problems as they take it as a personal attack or comment on their area of expertise or business. I spend a lot of time massaging egos and dented prides.

I kind of brought it on me, too. When training Internal Auditors, I gave them generalized checklists, report forms, etc. that were in the draft stage. Before we bring on the "Checklist" comments, it was a few basic questions for every audit and lots of room for their own queries. We started to receive them and not one Internal Auditor picked up on the "draft" documents until I mentioned it to one team that had not finished. I didn't want our Auditing team to look bad, especially when they were auditing Document Control. There's no shame in doing this because nobody reads these except the "Q" dude. The remark was "I'm going to have to write you up." :vfunny: It's Okay. This is training. :evidence: :smokin:

Why on earth should he be exempt? I can find no reason. If you have a responsibility you have to have some things that need fixing... I'm curious (As you already know): Is there an interesting story behind this question?

Re: Quality Systems Supervisor given a NC

When performing an audit, no one is exempt from being issued a Corrective Action if one is discovered. I would hope that would include the QSS. I am our QS Mgr and I would more than welcome a CAR when one is discovered during an audit. I would not take it personel or retaliate against the auditor. It is better for us to find a CAR during internal checks than during an external audit.

I think we hit upon a similar subject before. I would even issue a CAR to the President if it was warranted. And why not? An internal auditor should be non-bias and examine evidance with an objective mind. Just my 2 cents worth.

The Quality Supervisor-yes. The Company President-no. Don't try this at home. Two things to consider:
1. It may be the last thing you do at that Company, so be ready to leave.
2. Will it be worth it? Will it be the right battle? :agree:

I agree with Cindy on this one. I have issued many CARs to the President and all of the Vice Presidents (never lost my job). I did ASSIST with the investigation and implementation of corrective action but they were responsible for the nonconformance so they should have received the CAR. The first President was very open to receiving CARs and perceived them as a means to improve the organization. The second was arrogant and thought he was above the system but he did not fire me. As for the VP's they helped to implement the corrective action.
