I haven't read through this entire thread, at least in the last couple years, lol! However, my input:
Quality in terms of manufacturing: Producing the desired output reliably with known inputs.
I think customer quality could be coined perceived quality: How well does something perform/last compared to the customers expectation?
The customers expectation may not match the desired output by the manufacturer, and sales would never be quick to define the known/planned weaknesses of the product. Some companies aim for high perceived quality, designing the product go above and beyond expectations. Others, aim lower knowing that perceived quality will go down, but the lower cost will bring higher, sometimes even repeat sales.
