Question about OPRP and PRP with regards to HACCP and ISO 22000

Hi! Everyone, I am doing a project about "to develop a HACCP plan for a Ham Processing line" I know this topic has been discussed so many times, but I really need I link I can find the answer easily.

In my understanding, if I only do the HACCP but not for the ISO 22000, I should not have OPRP in my hazards, am I right?

My problem is that during my group presentation, the examiners said HACCP and ISO 22000 are the same thing. So, there SHOULD be OPRP in our plan.

I have check the standard about HACCP, there is no defination on OPRP. I just want to ask is my concept correct?

For HACCP alone, there are only CCP, PRP(GMP, SSOP etc.)

For ISO 22000, there are HACCP, OPRP and PRP.

Right?

Please help! I am going to defence this point if I can get more information.

Welcome to the Cove.

You are right. OPRP is a requirement of ISO 22000 and not HACCP. However, HACCP is a part of ISO 22000. On its own, HACCP methodology may not be enough to meet the needs of a modern food management system.

I disagree with you. Your examiner is correct. The difference is in the terminology used while both systems have same objectives and function the same way but at a different depth.

I hope the attachment will provide some clarity. The only outputs from a hazard analysis are CCPs and OPRPs and has nothing to do with PRPs which is OUTSIDE the box.

False. PRP, OPRP, and CCP are control measures. These are actions or activities that can be used to prevent or eliminate a food safety hazard or reduce it to acceptable level.

Control measure could either prevent or eliminate (reduce) a food safety hazard.

PRPs (general) = prevent the hazards
OPRP (specific to the type of process) = eliminate or reduce the hazards

PRPs, OPRPs and CCPs are all part of the overall "control measure combination" structure of a FSMS.
