Question Regarding MSA (Measurement Systems Analysis) - Pass / Fail Criteria tests

In regard to the ISO/TS 16949 - Section 7.6.1 Measurement system analysis, and Customer Specific Requirements ISO/TS 16949 Semiconductor Commodity for use by Semiconductor Suppliers, Section 7.6.1S Measurement system analysis, is semiconductor test equipment that classifies parameters into only two states, "1" (or "Pass") and "0" (or "Fail"), considered to be "measurement systems" that require some type of statistical studies to be conducted per the MSA manual to analyze the variation present in the results of each type of test equipment system?

If yes, what type of statistical studies should be conducted to analyze the variation present in the results of each type of test equipment system? More specifically, are Gage R&R studies required on the test equipment that classifies parameters into only two states, "1" (or "Pass") and "0" (or "Fail")?

The broad answer to your question is "yes." The AIAG MSA manual, 3rd Edition, starting on page 125, addresses methods for attributes (binary--pass/fail, go/no go, etc.) measurement systems. As to how you would apply this in your situation, I'm not sure, because I'm not familiar with the type of testing you're doing. I'm sure there are other Covers who do have experience though, so stay tuned.

Testing

Thanks for the quick answer. We do burn-in (hot, cold and ambient temps), and systems testing of chips, (parametric, speed, stress, basic functional) all of which are pass/fail. We also do characterization testing which actually measures the more exact values of parametrics and/or functional parameters. (Which is where I thought the MSA should come into play).

I am trying to limit MSA to only critical measurement functions otherwise if we did MSA on every peice of test and measuring equipment we have, we would be hard pressed to find the resources ($) to do it all.

Again, I don't have much experience in this area, so I'm not familiar with common practice in the industry, but it seems that it should be fairly simple to do attributes MSA in line with the AIAG manual's guidelines.

Msa Attribute

Hi
You have only 2 options in chapter III MSA 3 Edition. No more options

Large method or Cohen Kappa method

Please see the attachemnt with the chen kappa method (cross tabulationns)

This methos is aceptable by IATF but it has a problem that with this method you can accept NOK parts (not very agree with 7.1.2 ISO/TS 16949) . I reccomend you study the method in MSA document

Regards

Hi,

I also work in the semi conductor indusrty and our attribute gauges all have gauge r & r carried out. As stated before MSA third ed is a good text to get starting point from.

Happy testing......

Thanks

I have been reading on it. Of course I am trying to get out of this with the least cost and the most benefit possible.

Re: Question Regarding MSA - Pass / Fail Criteria tests

Good Morning All

I have been trying to validate the formulas in Carlos' spreadsheet. There is a hidden sheet called calculations but it is passowrd protected. It does not have the same password as the other sheets. Does anyone have any info. regarding this. Carlos if you see this can you please let me know what the password is. This is a very good spreadsheet, but I still need to validate the formulas.

Carlos hasn't been here since July, so you might want to send him an e-mail message. You can click on his username in the message above, and select "View Public Profile," and from there select "Send an e-mail message..." on the right. You might ask him to come here and post the information, or post it yourself if he responds.
