Reagent tracking in an ISO 17025 laboratory

What is your opinion as to whether a reagent needs to be tracked (for traceability) if it does not get added to a sample. The reagent is used as an instrument flush in between samples.

For the sake of process control I would track that. However, similarly to pH buffer solution, depending on industry and its relative requirements I would be satisfied with a minimalist approach if only one such reagent is available for use at a time.

Yes, our internal discussions point both directions. We were initially saying because it wasn't added to samples, it didn't need to be tracked. On the other hand, it could be a source of contamination...
