This should open an interesting discussion.

How does your registrar control your use of registration marks? By that I mean the use of the term "ISO 9001:2000 Certified (or Certification, Registered, Registration)", as well as the accreditation body seals (such as ANAB).

Judging from what I see in the marketplace, many registrars don't control the use of registration marks. Any discussion welcome.

CB's are required to control the usage of certification marks. For example, paragraphs 8.4.1 and 8.4.2 of ISO/IEC 17021:2006 have explicit requirements for CB's concerning this. Paragraph 8.4.3 expands on it and includes requirements for CB's to prohibit misleading statements concerning certification, by their registered customers. Any interested party that sees false or misleading claims concerning an accredited CB should bring that up to the CB's attention and/or the Accreditation Body's attention.

ISO 17021 implementation deadline by CB's is September 15, 2008.

But yet seeing product and product packaging with ISO markings on them is rampant. Obviously, many registration bodies are not doing much to enforce this.

Any commments on how some specific registrations bodies do this?

I can comment on an accredited CB that I do work for - NQA. They have a requirement that 'use of the logo' is checked at every visit (including surveillance) and this must be recorded in the audit report, including any departures from the rules.

However, it is difficult for companies when the CB changes its own logo or the rules change, for example and they have thousands of letterheads with the old logo. Also, some years ago, UKAS used to allow the use of the 'crown and tick' on vehicles and then they said it was not allowed. Many companies had this painted onto their vehicles and it is a tough call to tell them to re-paint them because UKAS have changed their minds.

I do check on my audits but it is difficult to enforce.
