Reliability Calculation - MTBF/MTTF for Static Mounts of Rail Industry

We manufacture static mounts which are used in the rail industry. All products undergo specified testing to relevant EN ISO standards. Typically most customers carry out an an annual inspection on their installations. We are now being asked to calculate a MTBF/MTTF for our static mounts so that an inspection period can be specified.

We have an understanding of failure modes through FMEA, and some very limited field data on reported failures, but apart from that I don't really know where to start. Can anyone provide some guidance please?

If you want to calculate MTBF/MTTF you need to have some testing data. MTBF is mean time between failures, and MTTF is mean time to failure. The thought process is you put something in service, and it goes so long until it fails. Then there is some sort of repair period while it is off service, and then it returns to service.

Do you have any failure testing data for your static mounts?
