Remote location vs. site extension

Can anyone help me distinguish remote location vs. site extension?

These are clearly defined in the rules

A remote support location is somewhere where non manufacturing activities are performed which support one or many manufacturing sites
e.g a design center, an HQ purchasing function

Unfortunately sometimes "rules" are not all. I've experienced additional requirements of certification body related to eligibility.
These were, in diplomatic words, "original".

So go to another CB if they don't follow the rules
You can always go to the IATF oversight body.
Please for the sake of everyone DON'T let them get away with it
