Hello all, I'm hoping someone out there can clarify a requirement in Para 7.5.1.5 - it says we have to provide for the approval, control, and use of repair schemes.

By repair schemes, do they mean Standard Repair Procedures, etc?

Thanks very much for your input on this.

Re: 7.5.1.5 Control of Service Operations

AS9100 Clause 7.5.1.5 - Control of Service Operations

7.5.1.5 in the AS9100 standard states:

'Where servicing is a specified requirement, service operation processes shall provide for
a. a method of collecting and analyzing in-service data,
b. actions to be taken where problems are identified after delivery, including investigation, reporting activities, and actions on service information consistent with contractual and/or regulatory requirements,
c. the control and updating of technical documentation,
d. the approval, control, and use of repair schemes, and
e. the controls required for off-site work (e.g., organization’s work undertaken at the customer’s facilities).'

By repair schemes, do they mean Standard Repair Procedures, etc?
I think so, but I'll let one of the AS9100 experts clarify.

Yes, I believe that to be true. I our case, we are the manufacturer but we also have a certificated repair station under the same roof so we have the luxury of ready access to all design data including instructions for maintenance and repair. However, if you are an independent repair facility, you need to ensure that your work is done in accordance with the manufacturer’s approved data and that you control that data as "documents of external origin".

I have a point:

Context: The standard talks about approval, control and use of repair schemes as a post-delivery activity. That means "repair schemes" on product the company produced/manufactured.

Question: Why should the organization be certified to do that repair for the product the very same organization built and knows quite well?

I was thinking approval, control and use of repair schemes was oriented to the activities we perform when a product is non-conforming on customer side, attending the following process: Non-conformance complaint, product disposition, prepare repair instructions (controlled and approved per organization internal process exactly like happens with internal discrepancies) and repair (on site or in field as applicable).

Am I wrong?

Thank you in advance
