Is it allowed to advertise a thread within this thread if it is seeking a review of a Quality Manual for ISO 9001 and is under the same section of the forum? I have a thread in this forum and I am actively seeking any comments on my proposed lean ISO manual.

Yes, it is possible to link from one thread to another, or even one post to another, like I have just done by using the Insert Link icon in post editing view.

Have I located the correct thread/post for you this way? Also, you could just simply reply to that thread in order to bump it up for more visibility.

I am going thru the same pain at the moment. I have inhereted a quality manual that is so fat, it should be a quality novel to rival Tolstoys War and Peace!!

In essence - I have covered 4.2.2. I have a
1. cover page
2. List of approvers and distribution
3. Scope
4. Exclusions
5. Quality policy and objectives for 12 months
6. A interaction flow diagriam that includes the reference to procedures
7. Copy of our last certificate
8. Change control record.

In total 8 pages.
Now to see the auditors comments .........

Only some feedbacks as per your request, that came up to my mind after a first glance to the manual.
I do not see any reference to the quality policy in manual and company quality objectives, besides no reference is done to management activities ( i.e. mgmt review) as well as training and competences.
Probably I am wrong but I did not find any.
It could be usefull to also reference the documented procedures of your QMS in an index as well as other documents belonging to it ( for instance mapping of processes and their link, that you have spoken with).

There is no requirement for the quality policy or objectives to be in the quality manual. Here are all of the requirements (ISO 9001:2008):

4.2.2 Quality manual
The organization shall establish and maintain a quality manual that includes
a) the scope of the quality management system, including details of and justification for any exclusions (see 1.2),
b) the documented procedures established for the quality management system, or reference to them, and
c) a description of the interaction between the processes of the quality management system.


That's it. You can put in anything else you want to, but if you look at those basic requirements it's easy to see that a QM doesn't have to 40 pages long.

These are just "nice-to-have" items for some manuals, but definitely not required to be included there as stated before by Jim. There are some "mom and pop" shops out there whose scope of activities are limited as such they can get away with such a smaller document. For some, they also prefer to design their manual as any quality manual worth its salt should be designed - as a marketing tool - just like a hotel brochure would similarly entice people to use their facilities.

I am not a fan of the minimal approach to producing quality manuals, mine usually end up about 10 pages long for just 9001 and about 12 - 13 for multiple standards, but I have attached an example of a quality manual on 2 pages.

Probably I was not clear in my post...I did not want to criticize but only share my opinion based on experience. You are right for quality objectives and policy but I intended at leat to mention that there is a policy and objectives for your organization. You may want want to also say that they are available somewhere for istance bulletin board.
