Review of Scope of Mangement System

Greeting to All,

I wish to seek your advise regarding the scope definition in management systems.
My organization is certified to an integrated management system (9001, 14001, 45001) and the scope covers several sites.
We have a new site that is also adding to the production quantities of the product that is already covered by the management system.

Now, as this site is relatively small in size can we wait for a few more years to include in our scope or have to extend the scope now?
What factors must we consider?

Thanks for your cooperation as usual.

There is no criteria based on size to determine the extent of the scope. If they are producing product which the company is claiming is produced within the scope of the QMS, then that site needs to be encompassed by the scope of the QMS.

Something that has been discussed numerous times before: do not confuse scope of a management system with scope of certification, as they are not the same and don’t have to be 100% aligned. Any organization should be aware and have a well defined scope of its systems, but scope of certification is something apart.

Hey, unique concept, ask your CB for specifics but in the end you have the "Certificate Scope" and "Location Activities" with the latter supporting the former........Verify it every day and twice on Tuesday

Great Responses here.
Much grateful.

So in that case we just need to decide on the coverage of our certification, which in this case we have decided to go for 100%

Correct. The sites to be certified and the timing of certification is TOTALLY up to your organization’s decision. A CB CANNOT enforce you to certify any site before you determine the site to be ready for an external audit.
