Our audit form really needs a revision. What do some of you more experienced scholars suggest to green Quality personel? :bonk:

I suggest that you revise it. :D Seriously though, tell us why you think it needs revision, what type of audit form it is, and maybe even post it here, and I'm sure you'll get some good advice.

Yes, what Jim said. What part needs to be revised? Are you saying that the form needs revision, or are you using a form with "generic or canned" questions already on the form and that is what is troubling you?

Re: Having trouble with audit form.

The form we have was givin to us. Its seems very repetitive. Lots of questions seem to have the same answers when I review them. Its also difficult to apply them to what I need. We do contract electronic manufacturing and it doesn't seem that I can get the qustions to relate. It may be I am a bit ingnorant to doing a proper audit but I'm trying to make sense of it.

Re: Having trouble with audit form.

I agree, it does need revision:rolleyes:

It looks to me as though someone has taken each clause of ISO 9001 and turned them into questions. Would you not be better developing your own questions based on the operation of your processes? e.g. look at how your sales activity works (including the procedure if there is one) and audit that plus, build in what clause 7.2 requires.

That way you get to audit what is important to you as a business and by picking up clauses as you go, you will eventually cover the standard too.:)

The first step is to make sure that your own internal documentation both meets the requirements of the standard, and adequately reflects your company's specific requirements. After the system documentation is in order (and the process approach has been effectively invoked) you can audit each process against those requirements initially without a formal checklist (i.e., perhaps using notes and written prompts). Once you've done that a few times, you should have a better idea of what a checklist should look like. In other words, let the checklist evolve from your own experience. Trying to predict what a checklist should or shouldn't include without any experience in actually examining the processes is likely to result in something like the one you posted.

Re: Having trouble with audit form.

That makes a lot more sense than using the one we have. Unfortunately we are having to use it do to we have an auditor coming in Nov. I feel we have used the one we have in a way that will be suitable. For sure I will have a much more useful version the next time around. Thanks for what has been posted already and any additional info will do nothing but help.:D

Don't bother revising it. Delete it completely. This type of checklist, based on turning the standard into a bunch of questions is not what audits are about. I'm glad you see the need to do something different, but I believe it's not the form, it's only part. It's the way you go about auditing that needs to change too.

Did you have any training on auditing? Did the trainer tell you to use such an approach? If so, I'm afraid you were robbed! The checklist doesn't support the 'process approach' and you will have to change a lot more to be able to develop a more effective set of audit techniques.

May suggest some help? Either to look over the whole internal audit system you have and see what's required to move it to a process methodology or to encourage you to get process based auditor training...
