Here is a copy from my procedure:

Quality documents are identified by the following minimum requirements:
- title
- document number and/or revision number
- and date
For our SOP's and WI's we chose to give them a REV level along with the date. Our forms and programs we just use the document number and date. Blueprints of course are rev level, and technical papers may be either. I could keep on listing, but i am sure you get my jist.

So, now that the 'brains trust' that is 'The Cove' has delivered its verdict - what will you do next?

I know that you said earlier your top management decided to take all of the NC's but you now have to either challenge the finding and explain that you do have control over the programs or put in a system which you don't need, knowing that this is a classic case of a system for systems sake which will probably fall into disuse because people know it has little value.

I was given the job as the Champion for this CAR. The other members of the team are the Operations manager and the programmer. While I was waiting on everyones reply I just went and had a talk with these other two individuals. I believe that we have come to the same conclusion. All we are going to do is update our SOP to actually address CNC programs, not just documents. We have decided that we are controlling these programs, it is our system, we just need to defend it.

Poor nonconformity. It should refer to the exact clause 4.2.3 (c) and state the requirement copied from ISO or your own QMS).

Reading between the lines, though she may have a valid NC (albeit v. minor) in that your machine programs may not be controlled in accordance with your documented procedure. :notme:

So unless your machine programs (in whatever format) have a title, document number and / or revision number and date then a NC exists - even if it has been badly written!

I agree with what everyone is saying also. Your programs should be controlled but the date you use is fine. ISO does not dictate what you use as a Revision level, you can use a number, a alphabetical letter, a date or any combination thereof.

Thanks,
