Hi guys, just joined to forum to participate in RoHS/REACH compliance chats. Anyways, I want to ask if anyone has experience working with compliance tools such as BOMcheck.net, Assent, Foresite, and many others. I would like your input on how intuitive it was, and how was the integration to your PLM system. The company is at the stage where Excel sheets are just too bothersome. Thanks guys! :thanx:

We received notification that 54 (SVHCs) new substances were added to the REACH. As I understood, ROHs 2 was coherent with REACH. Does this change things? Do we as a manufacturer need to now address REACh separately with these new substances?

Appreciate your response. Thanks

Where are you located? Do you do business with / in the EU? What industry are you in?

RoHS is limited to a small sector of the whole industry (electronic / electrics)

REACh is governs almost every sector (with pharma, military and food as exceptions)

Restricted substances is a complex issue that changes almost everyday.

Every company comes to a point where a software solution is necessary. These come at a cost (50K - 500K) depending industry / usage / PLM system and so on.

Also remember: you get what you pay for.

Also: your industry may already have a preferred solution (IMDS for automotive).

I have demo's of most of the programs you list.

You have to start with what does your company need / any customer - regulatory requirement you have to meet / budget available-needed.

Can you tell a little about what products / industry / where do you do business?

We are in the networking business and manufacture servers. I agree that you get what you pay for, as some of those tools charge an arm and a leg but do come with a lot more services.

Also I have a off topic question. Technical files standard EN50581:2012, 4.3.2, states the requirement regarding documented risk assessment on suppliers and the parts supplied. I am wondering what type of evidence is considered to be sufficient? (on-site audit? document employees' opinion backed by their experience and reasons?)

Thank you very much for the reply:thanx:

I would like to bump this up, as our very small company (with some large customers), that manufactures IVD instruments, is struggling to determine how best to meet RoHS2, Reach and CM requirements. We currently are using Excel to put together our BOMs, and realize that a dedicated software package for BOM creation and parts/material/components management is probably necessary, particularly one that can interface with compliance solutions, such as BOMCheck, or, at the very least, automate management of compliance status for each part/component. Because of our size, cost is a serious concern. I have been given the task of researching how best to proceed, and I have absolutely no experience with MRP or ERP software. Any recommendations on BOM software/compliance solutions combinations would be greatly appreciated.

Re: my post of 22 Oct, I am open to contact from consultants on how best to proceed. We realize that we may need some help putting together a compliant system, as well as training.

Thanks, Steve
