Rude Customer Auditor

#1
Hey, This is a new one to me.

I have just hosted and Audit for one of our customers and the Auditor was rude and overbearing. She didn't want to listen to how our processes actually work and as the closing meet told me I needed to look at my soft-skills as an auditee, she was really rude.

Has anyone been in this position?

Whenever I have a disgruntled auditee when I am auditing, I try to put them at ease or grin and bare it, I mean as an Auditor you are putting the Auditee out by being there in the first place. She had no objective evidence and disagreed with me.

I get that you are never going to like everyone you come across.

Wow, this sounds like she was pretty entitled! Are you going to put out a complaint about HER "soft-skills" to whomever she is auditing for? The whole point is to objectively look at your processes, so if she cannot provide that then she probably doesn't need to come back.

Well this issue is that this is a customer of ours, so how to go about putting in the complaint.

She kept telling me what she wanted to see and how her version of a process didn't match what we had (if that makes sense), rather than listen to how our processes comply.

I am not going to lie, I started to get pretty annoyed with her and that must have been notable in my voice (virtual audit), but then as a point in the closing meeting. "thanks for your time and support, but you need to look at the war you are with your Auditors and your soft skills"

One of the NC's I agreed with, one I don't.

But this was outside of the findings.
When dealing with customer auditors, sometimes you just have to take a deep breath and deal with the results. How far you might get in protesting is dependent on things we can't know here, such as the general relationship with the customer, your company's relative importance to them, and other factors. If you feel like complaining could do harm to the relationship, don't do it. Deal with the results and move on.

That being said, if there was a nonconformity identified that you don't agree with, I hope you made it known in the closing meeting.

My 2 cents again. If this is a customer audit, and the results were agreeable, i would work on my NC's and move on.

The difference in this and a CB audit is that in this case, the auditors company helps to pay your bills. You are working for them. In a 3rd party audit, you are the customer.

Sometimes its best to just grin an roll on, as best you can. I'm not sure a complaint to their boss would go over very well, or really accomplish that much. Not in a positive way anyway.
