So...the standard is available.

However:

1.Quote from standard "Changes are extensive and not marked" (they are simply not marked, not by vertical line on the left side or by (R) on the right, nada)

2.There is no redline version available.

I assume that for big companies this should not be a problem while for small companies will evolve into a nightmare.

Taking a pyrometry standard (43 pages) and comparing line by line to find the changes is a real, bigger than life PIA.

Anyone know of someone, somewhere that did the comparison?

Hello there...

Offsets are tricky and it's almost better not to use them and find the real issue (possible working t/c needs to be replaced???).

I am not sure if you are Nadcap and/or perform these tasks in-house or if you outsource them.

The short simple answer is this:
1. If you put a offset to pass SAT then you need to leave the offset in there to pass TUS.
2. If you can't do this - then replace your working t/c's (control/monitor t/c's) PRIOR to the SAT. Be sure to document this. This meets AMS2750 requirements and Nadcap requirements.
3. If you are constantly having to "offset" for SAT and TUS then it will be obvious that your oven is not performing to the stated class (temperature tolerance). This can be for a lot of reasons, so I'll just give a couple of the top reasons (given you have replaced your working T/C's). Here is some quick troubleshooting:

A. Are the instruments (multi-calibrator, data logger) being used accurately calibrated?
B. Are T/C correction factors being applied correctly? (SAT and TUS)
C. Does the oven need repairs? Check the following: heating elements, shrouds, fan (spinning in the right direction)?
D. Is the SAT being done in the same load condition as the TUS? Depending on your class and type of oven this may make a difference.

Thanks for the information on offsets.
My questions are a couple in regards to offsets and definition of manual offset.
if I can pass my SAT fine and do not need an offset but my TUS needs an offset can I set up a procedure to have the oven operator set his operating temperature on the oven with the offset (this is a "manual offset"?) for example the required temp is 302F and the TUS shows an offset needed at plus 7F, the operator sets the oven controller to 309F. If I do this then my future SAT do not have to do anything with this "manual offset" correct ? is this what AMS is referring to in 3.4.5.3.1?
