Can someone point me to any good articles on the internet on use of FMEA in Aerospace industry? I believe FMEA as a techique originated there? I am also looking for a sample FMEA sheet (there are many from automotive). Can one of the aerospace folks on board help me please?

Thanks.

How about a little more info on your goal and intended use of the info vis a vis FMEA and Aerospace, Atul?

Are you just looking for an overview and history or are you looking for concrete examples of checklists and procedures to perform FMEA? Do you also want some case histories of FMEA actually preventing "glitches" by triggering different designs or manufacturing processes versus flawed originals?

With a little more background on what you want to use the info for, I may be able to help you be more efficient in assembling the data.

Apologies for not replying earlier.

Thanks for the links Howard, these articles will help enhance my own understanding of the subject. In fact before posting the request I did a Google search and found some links, but frankly speaking was overwhelmed by the number of hits!!

This came up during the discussions we were having with a person representing an organization that provides some design and calibration services to a major aircraft manufacturer in India. I was really surprised to find a low awareness / usage of formal FMEAs. During the course of discussion I promised to get him some samples and articles about the use of FMEA in aerospace industry.

I have to tell you that we are looking at this company as a prospective client, initially for MSA training and software. But in future, FMEA might also come up for further discussion. So I am looking for both, an overview of how Risk Analysis and FMEAs are used and some concrete examples of checklists and procedures to perform FMEA that you mentioned.

Thanks...

Having been in the auto industry for the best part of my time I am now spending more time in the aero and defence sectors.

The DFMEA format used by Boeing is OK for system reliability and maintainability - which is their focus afterall, but will not help defect prevention / detection or evn reduction which is where teh auto industry use D and PFMEA.

I am working on a 50PPM project for a major aero supplier and have sold them on the automotive way of working. If anyone wants what I develop for this lot just ask.

As a point I have had a lot of resistance from internal quality guys who are inspection focused even if they spout the assurance not control message. They also have no degin for quality focus above testing the parts
