Sampling plans for large quantities along lines of ISO 2859-1:1999

I am working for a landscape gardening firm trying to become ISO 9001 accredited. I just wondered if anyone had any idea how I would go about developing a plan to inspect goods coming in.
As its a landscape gardening company obviously huge orders come in anything up to 4000 plants may come in at once and it would be ridiculous to inspect them all. I am aware we need to develop a sampling plan based on ISO 2859-1:1999...but dont really understand what that is yet.

Could someone please help either reply to thread or message me if you prefer...

Welcome Gould,

I am in the construction business and we received container loads of bulk and heavy items like bricks, tiles and other building materials. Obviously, we cannot be inspecting them immediately when they arrived.

So, the industry had an understanding/practice that upon goods arriving, the acknowledgement on the PO is for issues like quantities, physical checks etc. We will check and inspect/reject as work progresses. ISO does not mandate that you must use AQL or what nots. You need to inspect incoming goods more as a good practice - garbage in, garbage out.

Hello and welcome to The Cove Forums! :bigwave: :bigwave:

Interesting!

ISO 9001:2000 does not require receiving/incoming inspection per se..
It requires verification of purchased product, Clause 7.4.3 which refers also to "other activities."

So, if you have a high level of confidence in the plant material supplier, based on (recorded) historical quality/delivery performance, you can greatly reduce your dependency on receiving inspection.

However, a new plant material supplier may be monitored for a pre-determined time period.

It is your call.

Hope this helps a little.

Stijloor. (Son of a former landscaper and grounds keeper) :)

Sometimes, it depends on how you structured your contract. My experience with plants/trees are that when transplanted, they suffer from 'shock' and many do not survive. This is how we structured our contract (it's buyers market).

1. We specify the type, height, girth (diameter at certain area), spacing and place to plant. We don't care how many were brought in. A down payment (X%) will be made.
2. After three to six months, there will be a joint inspection and valuation where the number planted are counted less those rejected because of poor quality. Another % of payment will be made.
3. The landscape contractor is responsible to replant/replace the rejected plants - payment of which will be made subsequently.
