How do I periodically review the audit trail of the SAP system?

for any softawre, thats a chapter in itself., it willhelp to narrow down your query.

"how to " has two components.,
from 'systems' perspective.,
1.ensure that right-configuration elements are maintained. viz.,audit-trail functionality enabled,
2. ensure that the key audit-trail elements are defined-designed-implemented ( viz.,life cycle aspects of material-master (specifically QM data & UOM etc ), User authorisations, QM-masters, AND, relevant transactions/reports-controls forreview of data at right/suitable time)
3.finally, appropriate evidence of implementation +periodic reviews.

from review-process perspective.,
1. navigation process for performing each of the above steps.
2. built in checks and balances ( controls) for timely reviews & approval of the audit trails.
