Scrap + Replacement always?

Q

QAMTY

Hi everyone

I have a confusion, and asking for advice
hopping to have support

I was figuring out how a disposition response should be:

when a NC is detected and correction is needed

-Rework-- Rework the product
-Repair -- Repair the product
-As is -- To use it, as it is

- Scrap - This disposition should always be accompanied
with new product replacment?, since product
is not able to be used anymore.

scrap +???

Please share your standpoint

Thanks

Not necessarily. Scrap can be for various reasons, for instance expired product which you no longer intend to replace. You can scrap a batch and no longer plan to replace it. Scrap material can also occassionally be used as training material or for some vaidation runs where it has no adverse effect.

On more disposition type could be "regrade", this is the use of the product for an application different from the original one, e.g. cables which did not meet the minimum length in one product could be inside the expected range for another model.

From purely the point of control of NC products you just scrap it and done.
However this does not work in isolation. there is a customer related process where contract or order requirement determines how much has to be delivered. If you have planned for this by manufacturing some percentage more than requirement expecting some scrap, then you can just scrap and still meet contract or order requirement. In case due to some other reason the scrap which happens makes you fall short of the contract or order requirement of product delivery quantity, then you may have to make new good parts to cover the scrap quantity. It all depends upon your situation and how the interaction of customer requirement happens with control of production and service provisions.
Did we clarify to you what you were seeking to know ... ?

Adding to the great Advice from Somashekar, you could also have a trend analysis over scrap rates, and use that data to determine a need to start Corrective or Preventive Action. The evaluation of scrap rates could also be a start point to begin a Cost of Quality project and from there promote further interest of your management on investing on new quality improvement projects.

It depends how your process is set up. I think the replacement of parts is beyond the quality function.
When a part is scraped, what do you?
• Physically mark scarp
• Throw away
Production/planning notification
• How is the production/planning department notified
• Does the production/planning process drive the need for replacement parts

I hope this helps,
Phil

broken, bad handling in shipping.

so Disposition is Scrap

what is next?

New equipment

Another disposition is "return to vendor"

If you've received something that was damaged in transit, it can either be dispositioned as Return to vendor, or a claim can be made against the freight carrier.

Scrap is a decision. Disposition is what you want to do with it, or how you want to get rid of it ?
1. Burn it...
2. Bury it ...
3. Send to supplier...
4. Sell as scrap ...
5. send to crusher ...
6. Keep it in your garden as a showpiece...
