Select the 1 Supplier based on the Parts Durability from 6 Supplier Samples using Minitab

Hello there,

I have 6 Supplier samples to compare based on the Durability and Cost. In Total there are 6 Samples * 25 observation each = 150 observations. I would like to use Minitab to generate the outcome for selection of the Sample from one of these 6 samples.

The data set is from samples provided by the suppliers containing Durability (in months) and Cost (in rupees). I will have to select the best possible sample to fit the company needs.

But I have no idea what I should use for comparing these 6 Samples. Could anyone give me an idea?

Sorry for my English and Thanks in advance!!!

To help your understanding...the data set looks like this:

Howdy, and welcome to the Cove.
The data set is from samples provided by the suppliers containing Durability (in months) and Cost (in rupees). I will have to select the best possible sample to fit the company needs.

What are the company needs?
- Highest durability?
- Cheapest part (probably not)
- Best durability per cost?

If it is best durability per cost, divide cost by durability in months...$/month and analyze from there.
If you have a minimum durability need...cull your data of all that doesn't meet that need then go by cost (and statistical analysis or risk that future parts may not have the same durability).

Is there more you can share regarding what the company needs are?

Yes @Ninja , as you mentioned the company goal is to get the Best Durability per Cost.

I'm looking for a way to support my outcome (e.g. Sample 6 seems to be the best fit) Durability/Cost, but looking for a Statistical approach to explain the decision to my management. (e.g. using 2 sample T-test/ANOVA) in Minitab.

Please let me know if there is a specific approach that I can apply or follow.

FWIW, I would just immediately downselect to Vendors 6, 1 and 3 (in that priority order) and run each of them through reliability analysis on your small sample set (or get a larger sample set for these three).

2, 4 and 5 have multiple fails AND all cost more...so they're just out of consideration.
You may want to do minitab, and others here can help you with that far better than I...but the limited data set you have above makes it pretty clear just by some simple math...attached.

For the money, I would just get a bunch more samples from vendor 6 and pursue that, leaving #1 and #3 on the shelf as a backup plan.

You need to do a reliability analysis. Samples 2-5 are obviously very unreliable, so the options really narrow down to samples 1 and 6. I ran a quick reliability analysis and am posting the survival plots below. To me, the answer is obviously sample 1. Sample 6 will completely fail before sample 1 begins to fail.

@Miner:
Can you run that quick for $/durability as well? It should be interesting...if you feel like it.

Could you please share the sample project file, if the above was produced from Minitab. I haven't performed the Reliability Analysis and would help in understanding the approach you have taken.

Are you able to open Minitab 20 files?
Not sure if i missed out something , could you please clarify.

R u asking if i can open a Minitab v20 file ? - Then Yes i have the software, i should be able to open it.
