Sending person(s) to Mars, and not bring them back.

In the planning stage right now:
Is this the legacy we are leaving. To decide to be willing to send a person, (one or two men), to Mars. These lucky astronauts will have the pleasure of knowing they will never come home. It is to expensive to plan for a return, it is declared.
This is for what purpose? "Owe-ya, science!". Who would consider sending someone there who is willing to go? OMG !
I think 2 would go, in case of a person failure. A man and a woman likely not. And could two women go?

This is not "in the planning stage right now." In fact, it's little more than interesting speculation, and most likely emanated from this article in the Journal of Cosmology (which seriously needs to get its website design out of the 1990s).

Funny you should mention it though, because earlier today I happened upon this short speech by William Safire which was intended to be delivered by Richard Nixon in the event our first visitors to the moon were unable to return.

How about allowing us to elect who those first 2 people should be? This is one time I'd be sure to vote!

I am sure we should send our best representative(s). Someone who can speak intelligently for us to the new-found life discovered. Maybe a previously elected official. :lmao:
