Is ISO 9001 fully aplicable for any organization?

I am currently investigating the effectiveness and value in service operations of :

a) The ISO 9001 standard implementation.
b) The ISO 9001 certification market appretiation. (e.g. customer value and
differentiation).

The results will be summarized and used
as part of a university report.
I will greatly appreciate any feedback from users of the standard , particulary in service enterprises.

Sincerely

ISO can be implemented in any organization. Schools. Hospitals. Insurance companies. Government agencies. Manufacturing companies. Consulting companies. You name it.

Is so far as effectiveness, I'm not sure what you mean.

To me, the bottom line is almost any company which goes through an implementation has a good opportunity to take a close look at its self. That in its self is of value as far as I'm concerned regardless of whether they open their eyes and act upon the findings.

I'm not sure what you mean by:

What I meant was if the customers of those companies value the fact that they are certified or not, for example if a client is searching for a service, and finds two companies , one certified and the other not, to how extent is this going to be critical in the decision to do business with them ?

Thank you for your reply.

Some customers care and some don't. I don't know where you'll find 'data' on this. I can say that al least 90% (my opinion) of all registrations are at the request (or outright required by) of one or more customers. Now many companies truely go through implementation and register ONLY because they think it's a good thing to do. Almost always a customer or sales/marketing starts the ball rolling.
