Service Program - Treat Service Parts Similiar to Production Parts?

Looking for ideas...

As we all know in TS requires us to treat service parts similiar to production parts...but that could be extremely expensive...

How can we go about separating and justifying not spending the money on annual layouts for service parts?

What should the service program consider?

Service packaging & labeling requirements, how should we treat preventive maintenance of moulds, fixtures and gages? Can we get away from annual layouts (Customer specific requirements for Ford, Visteon & at least our GM program)...

If anyone has developed a service program that is consistently applied please advise...

Do any of you folks have any thoughts on Service Programs? I would think ervice padrts would be just as 'important' as production parts, but are the requirements different?

Service parts require the same quality requirements as mass production parts, as well as the tooling to produce them. Years ago service parts were treated like 2nds and less stringent quality criteria.

ISO9001 and TS169449 show these requirements in 7.5.1 Control of Production and service provision. There are no differences listed between the type of parts.

Annual layouts were generally applied to production parts, not service. Thatw oudl be something to discuss/negotiate with your customer. It does not add value in many cases, because the volumes are low. TS standard does not address any requirement that they be annual.
