"Service" Vendor (Supplier) Evaluation - How are you evaluating suppliers?

Hello.
I would like to know how others are evaluating their 'service' vendors. That is, those vendors such as calibration, freight, outside testing, etc.
For our productive material vendors we have a scorecard system that works well. However, this is not so practical for service vendors.
Any ideas on how to simply conform on evaluating them, without reinventing the wheel?

What about things like:
  • On time service?
  • On time completion of service?
  • Paperwork in order?
  • Maintenance of a management system (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 17xxx <sorry, currently experiencing a vulcan mind dump>)

Can't help with the other service providers, but for calibration or testing laboratories, look for the ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation and scope. Saves a lot of effort for those providers.

Additional factors like"Reliability of Service"and"Response" may also be included.If the services 'provided'(or lack of it) results in customer disruptions, negative marks may be awarded.

Other idea

Once, I´ve helped a friend in a 2nd part assessment. In the company we´ve assessed there was a supplier evaluation that was really simple: the "non productive" suppliers were evaluated by an easy check list that was answered by the service requester (before financial approval). All the check lists were recorded in Byuing Dept (as the Record Control Procedure request). The questions in the check list were really easy to answer (the reason for choosing this company, if other options were evaluated, what was the most important criteria - price, quality, delivery..., and a period for re-evaluation).
