Inputs are defective devices. Outputs are repaired devices going back to the same customer that sent in the defective (faulty) device.

I think you are looking at this the wrong way. What you described is a type of service. Your example of a car needing its oil changed or a device that needs to be sent back for calibration periodically is also a type of service. Not all devices will have servicing - some companies do not repair their devices (think single use devices). They may have a warranty but most often for those types of devices it involves a credit or replacement.
