Hi,
A customer has just finished auditing our machine shop. All went well but one point came up.
We currently measure the inside diameter using air gauging as described in our control plan. The customer asked how we calibrated the gauge, we use two ring gauges, one @ 8.024mm and 8.014mm.
Now he has asked us to use setting rings equivalent to the top and bottom limit of the product being made, to which I said yes. The tolerance is 8.019mm to 8.016mm
The machine shop are now saying they can't set the equipment to that close of range. but they can set to 8.024mm and 8.014mm. The gauge it self reads to 0.0001mm, and with it being air gauging should be possible measure down that far.
Now for the part that's frying my head
I have conducted Cg, Cgk and gauge R&R on this and the Cgk is 17% and gauge R&R Tol is 12%, which points toward the gauge being OK for use.
We can't use a set of ring gauges to set the air gauge to the tolerances the parts being measured.
But we can set above and below the part tolerance and set the tolerance of the part on the gauge.
Is my gauge any good if I can't set the top and bottom limit using ring gauges and not by adjusting the off set of the gauge?
