Setting Up a Basic Quality Lab for a small manufacturing company

So we are looking at redoing our QA lab. It's a basic lab for a small manufacturing company. All the standard handheld gauges plus a CMM. Right now it's a hodge podge of various tables, desks, cabinets, etc. I'd like to make it more uniform but something that won't break the bank. It's an 18 x 30 ft. space.

Any ideas? Built in cabinets and counter tops? Special furnishings? Pictures and links appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Ours is about the same. I put a row of cabinets (5, mix of drawers and cabinets) on a platform with wheels so I can reconfigure the room as needed. I also put the granite block ((4ft x 4ft x 6 inches) on a rolling frame. The CMM is already on wheels so this leaves all my options open depending on the needs.

Basic key is what are you checking? CMM is good, but what if any manual measurements do you do? Start with a clean slate, looking specifically at what you NEED. Then the next thing is flow. Not zig-zag approach, but smooth flow. In other words, simple is good.

Now, you want to use an accredited cal lab, accredited for those measurements, to calibrate your equipment, and get the logo certs. It may cost more but gives you information you need. ALL measurements have error, but you need to know the error of your instruments.

Hope this helps.
