Short Term Corrective Action Methods

People found it timeconsuming for going into detailed or long term Corrective actions, which follow the path of 8D, 5Why, PDCA etc. are there any shortcut CA are available, which can be used as interim measure, on the detection of Non Conforming Material in the Process, besides keeping the NC material quarantined and out of flow from the Normal Process flow?:bonk:

Correction? Just fixing the problem that's been identified? Often people try to use a sledgehammer (8D, 5Y) to crack a nut (small errors).

You might want to look at your criteria for what needs a full corrective action and what might just need correction. People also take the line of least resistance, so also consider they might not 'like' doing corrective actions for the wrong kinds of things, because they don't understand it etc.

Each problem is unique, so you don't have to use the same tools for everything. To me the method I use to find the root cause is not as important as making sure that we've dug deep enough. Also, it's critical to verify that the action taken was effective in eliminating the cause and preventing it from happening again.

If all you do is a quick analysis and all you find is a "surface" cause, the problem will probably come back. If you don't have time to do it right the first time, how will you find time to do it over?
