Should a Quality Policy have Revision Control?

From what I understand, it is not necessary to have revision number for Quality Policy. However, it could be a good practice.

I don't think it does but we do it just as standard document control practices. 4.2.3 doesn't mention a "Rev Control" at all, it directs you to assure that relevant versions of applicable documents are available (as well as other directives) how you accomplish this and the other set requirements is up to your QMS. You could use watermarks, logo's or symbols (especially if you have a multi-cultural work force who may not understand your language. The main thing I would look at is the first requirement for documented procedure on how these documents are controlled and if the Policy is included so be it.

What??

My thoughts exactly! Since a definition of quality policy is "the overall intent and direction of the organization towards quality", then you et your sweet bippy it affects product quality. What are you going to point to when a bunch of operators start rejecting product which they say 'they wouldn't pay for?" Even though the product meets specification..........

What??

:mg: :mg: :mg:

I am sorry,:agree:

What I ment was the Text of the Quallity policy.

What affects the Product quality is directly the,
Drawings,
Control plans,
Work Instuctions,
Test Specifications,Etc.

The operators or the people concerned with the product quality must actually follow the above.
And if the concerned Dept.heads target the set objectives of the management (Which is derived from the policy) then the company by itself will have effective QMS and continually improve.

Hence I said the policy does not directly affect product quality.

QP is a reviewable document and has to be under control just as you control any other QMS doc. When you display QP, you are literally 'issuing the doc' to that location. So at least dated QP can be displayed with information on location of each controlled QP displayed, available with person in charge of doc. control. This is particularly logical in organizations with large floor area and many functional units. 2008 version makes it clear that QP has to be controlled as per cl. 4.2.3.

Mr. Varadharajan,

I strongly disagree with your explanation. All these are misconceptions about the standards.

the policy does not directly affect product quality.

Answer to the original post:

As an auditor,I can only suggest /recommend to have a revision control system (false proof mechnism) to ensure the effective communication of quality policy. Ultimately, the auditee has to take a call on that to implement this false proof mechanism to avoid wrong policy communication in the work areas..

I can give a minor nonconformance provided if a newly updated policy in manual is not communicated while the old policy still exists in the posters of all work areas.

It's not required to have this on all pages. Too much work and does not add value.

I have a 34 page quality manual (plus 10,000 supporting procedures and work instructions) If I make a change to a single page I can up issue this instead of the whole document. In some of my more fluid procedures I also have individual page control.... makes life a lot easier for us. It also ensures that a multiple paged document always has issue control if page one is lost.
