Signature Missing from Calibration Certificates

Good morning!

I have concerns over the following on one of my 17025 accredited lab's certs.

l) identification of the person(s) performing the confirmation;
m) identification of the person(s) responsible for ensuring the correctness of the recorded information;

At the top of the cert there is a line that lists [FONT=Arial,Bold][FONT=Arial,Bold]Performed By: John Doe and all the other into such as gage type, temp, rh, etc. then on the cert there is the test data. On the last line of the cert it states "THIS CERTIFICATE OR REPORT SHALL NOT BE REPRODUCED EXCEPT IN FULL, WITHOUT THE WRITTEN APPROVAL OF THE LABORATORY.
METROLOGY SERVICE MANAGER: BILLY JOE WHOEVER."

My concern is that there is no manual or electronic signature on the certficiation. We are an AS9100 accredited supplier using this one of many 17025 accredited labs for outside calibration of some measuring and test equipment. Can you advise what type of signature should be on the cert and is the above acceptable? I thought there used to be a check list for end users to ensure what was required on a certification from a 17025 accredited lab.

Any help appreciated :D

Re: Signature Missing from Cal Certifications

The requirement is stated:

- the name(s), function(s) and signature(s) or equivalent identification of person(s) authorizing the test report or calibration certificate;

Re: Signature Missing from Cal Certifications

I think the signature portion is throwing me off. Some of my certs I receive with a physical signature at the end with the person's title/position. So no physical signature is required?

Re: Signature Missing from Cal Certifications

I think what the intent of the clause is getting at is that the person(s) need to be identified by name.

Your concern is well founded. However, ISO/IEC 17025:2005 Clause 5.10.2 does not require that much, only the approval.

HOWEVER - You can and maybe should require more, as under ISO/IEC 17025:2005 Clauses 4.4, this is certainly reasonable and the cal lab should be able to accomodate.

If I saw that at an accredited cal lab where I was doing an assessment, there better be a specific electronic approval by an Authorized Signatory, and it better be available to the customer. Then the argument can be made it is valid. Absent that, the certificate does not meet the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 Clause 5.10
